SERIOUS CHARGE.

Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 20. A fracas took place at the corner of Madras Street and Moorhouse A venae last night as a result of which an elderly man. Thomas Hawtin, was seriously wounded and is now in the Christchurch Hospital in a low condition, suffering from a slienth knife wound in the throat. Hawtin s condition is such that it was impossible for the police to interview him. This morning 'William George Boyd was charged that, with intent to do bodily harm, he wounded Thomas Hawtin. Boyd was described as a labourer, aged 54, of no fixed abode. He was remanded for a week.
