HOROWHENUA.

- (From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, Jan. 19. Mrs Whiteman, penr., of Lower Hutt, mother of Mr S. Whiteman, of Otaki, is at present in indifferent • health. Mrs F. H. Monk and her three daughters, and Miss F. Beauchamp, have returned to Otaki after spending a holiday at Waikanae .Beach. Mr L. A. Morgan, after five years’ residence in Otaki, during which time he. has .made many friends, has accepted a position' in Wellington. Mr Morgan, during his residence here, has been a most capable secretary of both the Tennis an'd Golf Clubs, and will be greatly missed. A pleasant time was spent in the Anglican Parish Ilall, when about one, hundred guesfs were entertained at a gift evening, given in honour of Miss Rita Sharp and’ Miss Rita Lloyd, in view of their approaching marriages. The two young ladies have proved very popular with everyone. The esteem in which they were held was shown by the generous *•- play of gifts they received. A pleasing item was the presentation of bouquets to the brides-elect and their mothers. This was carried out by Miss Anita Tews and little Eva Synnott. The wedding took place at Paraparaumu on Saturday afternoon of Miss Rnrangikura Webber, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs Hona Webber, and Mr Pcrcival Claude Russell, son of Mr Russell, of Waikanae. The bride was nicely attired in a maize-coloured frock, trimmed with blue, and wore hat and shoes to tone. The bridesmaids, Miss D. Collins (Wellington) and Miss II." Russell (Waikanae), were also very nicely dressed, while Mr A. Webber was best man. The groomsmen were Messrs Leo. Barrett and J. Hilkie. The bride was given away by Mr T Webber. A large gathering afterwards assembled at the Paraparaumu Hall, where a pleasant time was spent and the health of tbe young couple honoured. The honeymoon is being spent in the north. Mr and Mrs Russell were the recipients of a number of very fine presents.
