LONDON SERIES OPENS. DOMINION SORTS WANTED. ACTIVE COMPETITION. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received January 19, 10.10 a.m. LONDON, Jan. 18. The wool sales opened with values from par to 5 per cent better all round with the exception of shorthaired, inferior Mbrinos.

At the sales 7792 bales were offered, including 1479 from New Zealand; 6565 were sold.

New Zealand realisations were : Canterbury slipe lialfhred combing lambs, average 103 d, top price 143 d; slip© crossbred combing lambs, average 9|d, top price 13d. There was a large attendance of Home and Continental buyers and the Home trade actively sought ail the New Zealand greasy crossbreds available.

Prices for best scoured and greasy Merinos and crossbreds were 5 per cent dearer; medium scoured und greasy Merinos and crossbreds were unchanged, and coarse scoured and greasy Merinos and crossbred were 5 per cent lower than the closing prices of tho last series.

DALGETY AND CO.’S REPORT. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having received the following cable from their head office: —Wool sales opened; large attendance; strong competition ; good selection. French the principal operators, with good support from other Continental sections and the home trade. As compared with the closing rates of last series greasy super Merino is par to id higher; greasy average to inferior Merino, par to Id lower; scoured Merino, - unchanged; greasy halfbred, jd to Id higher; scoured lialfhred, unchanged to rather lower; greasy crossbred, par to id higher; scoured crossbred, par to Id higher; slipes, lialfhred, Id to lid liigher ; medjum to coarse slipes, id to 3d higher; blanket slipes, id to Id higher. Russia operating for greasy super crossbred at Id to lid above these quotations.
