BRADMAN’S ADVICE TO ENGLAND.
A letter from D. G. Bradman, the Australian cricketer, advising the inclusion of spin bowlers in the next England team against Australia was read by Mr A. E. R. Gilligan, former England and Sussex captain, at the Southwick (Sussex) Cricket Club dinner. The letter stated
“Evidently our victory and your more recent acquaintance with English county cricket has givon you the impression that Australia under fine conditions. should win the ‘Ashes’ in 1938. At the same time I think you will agree that both England and Australia should have stronger teams in 1938. Your crying need at present is spin bowling. Australia’s attack has for years been based on length and spin, and what handsome dividends that policy has paid.”
