After interesting fluctuations in the positions. Southland and Otago drew with five points each in the War Memorial Shield competition. The third New Zealand record was broken at the championships when M. Bell (Auckland), the only competitor in the 75 yards junior boys’ backstroke, covered the distance in 59 l-o sec., cutting three-fifths of a second off his own record.
