CARNIVAL CONCLUDED. Per Press Association. ■ NELSON, Jan. 18. The New Zealand intermediate and junior swimming championships conconcluded in ideal conditions before an attendance of 1200. After interesting fluctuations in the positions. Southland and Otago drew with five points each in the War Memorial Shield competition. The third New Zealand record was broken at the championships when M. Bell (Auckland), the only competitor in the 75 yards junior boys’ backstroke, covered the distance in 59 l-o sec., cutting three-fifths of a second off his own record. Championship results are: 100 vards junior girls’ free-style.— B Westerly (Southland) 1, N. Kira (Bav of Plenty). 2, D. Wilson (South Canterbury) 3“; time, 1.14 2-5. Won by a touch. . , 220 yards intermediate boys freestyle —J. Cameron (Southland) 1, R. Marshall (Canterbury) 2, C. Ferguson (Otago) 3; time, 2.36. 50 yards junior girls’ breaststroke.— M. Stewart (Otago) 1, P. Cave (Wanganui) 2, N. Peat (Otago) 3; time, 41 see. Won'by two yards. 75 yards junior boys’ backstroke. M. Bell (Auckland); the only competitor. Time, 50 1-s—a New Zealand Intermediate boys’ dive. 3. Sewell (Bav of Plenty); the only competitor. 110 vards intermediate girls freestyle.—Miss C. Garvin (Otago) 1, Miss P.
