HAWKE CUP. ARRANGEMENTS FOR FIXTURE. Information was conveyed to a mooting of the executive of the Manawntu Cricket- Association, last evening, that, following the withdrawal of the Poverty Bay challenge for the Hawke Cup, endeavour's were being made to arrange for either the Wanganui or the Wairal'apa Association to take up the challenge for January 22, next Saturday. , The secreary (Mr It. A Brace) detailed the interchange of telegrams between the Poverty Bay and Hawke’s Bay Associations, (Paver! y Bay withdrawing their challenge for the Hawke Cup on January 22, and Hawke’s Bay being unable to accept the date), and' the New Zealand Cricket Council. The following telegram has been received from the New Zealand Council: “If after conferring with both associations you call arrange for either Wailganui or Wairarapa to take up the match on January 22, the council will approve. The other association can then take up the fifth challenge, thus obviating playing off nil elimination match between tile two.” The secretary reported that he hud that evening telegraphed both the Wairarapa and Wanganui associations, and the secretary’s report oil the subject was received. AN AUCKLAND OFFER.

The Auckland Cricket Association wrote offering to play a Wellington Minor Associations team on February 25, 26 and 28, the visitors to take 60 per cent of the profit, up to £BO. It was pointed out that serious difficulty would be faced by some of the Palmerston North club teams on account of players being absent. Tho chairman (Mr A. M. Onglcy) thought that if the trip could be arranged it should be made. The Hawke Cup team members had played for four years without being away., from Palmerston North.

Tho secretary said that the other associations would be required to raise £lO for each player from their districts.

It was also pointed out that there were other matters to be considered, among them being the available leave for certain players. The South Auckland Cricket Association’s challenge for the Hawke Cup was set down for tho last week in February, while the Plunket Shield match between Auckland and Wellington was to be played from February 18 to 22. Probably several of the Minor Associations’ best players would be called on to take part in that match and, in the case of Manawatu players, there would he tho three matches falling within a short period. The meeting decided to write to the other associations in the Wellington Country District asking for their views on the proposal. Tho South Auckland Association are also to be asked if they would agree to postponing their Hawke Cup challenge for a week so as not to clash with the match at Auckland. PROFIT ON MATCH. The secretary reported that there had been a profit of £lO to £ls on the Taranaki Hawke Cup match. The Rangitikei Hawke Cup match had come out about all square and the Country v. Canterbury match would be about all square, too, but ground expenses could not be met and the travelling expenses of the players from other districts in the Country team would'not be paid,' although their hotel expenses would be provided. It was decided to write to the Canterbury Cricket Association expressing thanks for their Plunket Shield team playing the match against the Wellington Minor Associations’ team. The chairman said the Canterbury team had been very satisfied and had expressed the opinion that the umpiring had been first-class. It was also mentioned that complimentary reference had been made by the visitors to the score-board at the Sportsground. On the motion of Mr J. Gallichan, it was decided to write to those who had voluntarily undertaken the major part of the work in extending tho .board recently. REPRESENTATIVE TEAMS.
