The cricket championships arc continuing for the Now Year and Shannon played Paraparauniu at Paraparaumu pn Saturday, winning by 120 runs in the first innings. Shannon made 180 and Paraparaumu 60.

The Shannon branches of the Women’s Division grid the Farmers’ Union hold a successful combined picnic at Foxton Beach. Boys’ race, 10 io 12yrs, Ted Barber 1, G. Hennescy 2; ladies three-legged, Misses B. Best and A. Mitchell 1, Mrs T. Moynihan and Mrs S. Barber 2. Mr and Mrs A. 11. Morgan, of Hamilton, have been spending a few days with Mr and Mrs H. Stern (Buckley). Mrs Morgan is taking part in the championship croquet tourney at Wanganui. Mr L. Satherlcy and Mr R. Sands left on Saturday for Gisborne. Constable R. Boyd and Mrs Boyd left on Monday to spend a vacation in Masterton. Constable Cootes, of Palmerston North, is relieving in Shannon. Mr and Mrs J. Curran, of Plimmor Terrace, journeyed to Wanganui on, Saturday to attend the wedding of their son, Frank. Visiting Mr and Mrs A. Semple during the week was Mr J. Grierson, of Geraldine. Mr O. Hensman is still an inmate of the Palmerston North Hospital. The Tennis Club ran a successful Yankee tourney'On Saturday afternoon, when there was a good attendance. Mice A. Moynihan and Mr K. Thompson were the winners.
