SIXTY-FOUR ATHLETES.
EMPIRE GAMES TEAM. DEPARTURE TO-MORROW. WELLINGTON, Jan. 19. The biggest and most representative sports team ever to leave New Zealand will sail to-morrow night to carry this country’s banner in the Empire Games .to be held at Sydney from February 5 to February 12. The Games will not be the least important of Australia’s 150th anniversary celebrations, for the participants will comprise the most representative, even if not the largest, delegation from the other Empire countries. From Great Britain, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, the West Indies, and, Ceylon, athletes will arrive not only to compete against each other but to carry a message of Empire unity to Australia on her great occasion.
The New Zealand team for the Games numbers 64, of whom all except one will have assembled in Wellington by to-night. Miss D. Lumley, Auckland, a member of the athletes team, is to sail direct from Auckland. The full team is as follows: —
