CROQUET COUNCIL

ANNUAL MEETING. TRIBUTE TO LATE MEMBERS. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, Jan. 18. At the annual meeting of the Dominion Croquet Council, the President (Mr R. W. McCreath) and Captain F. Hartnell (a vice-president) both spoke of the loss the council had sustained during the past year by the deaths of Mr E. J. Ross (Christchurch), Mrs Hamilton (Auckland), and Mrs Mayes (Palmerston North 1 ). 1 Captain Hartnell, in referring to the late Mr Ross, mentioned that the finest memorial erected to the council was its constitution, which had stood the test of years without any alteration. The late Mrs Hamilton, ■ a former vice-president, was an enthusiastic supporter of the sport, and would be sadly missed amongst the players. The late Mrs Mayes, who had managed many tournaments, was well-known throughout New Zealand as one of the most capable managers the council had ever had.

Appreciation of the services of these late officials of the council was placed on record, and those present observed the usual mark of respect by standing in silence. A selection committee was formed for selecting overseas teams, and comprised Mrs McCreath, Mrs Bartlett, and Mr A. G. F. Ross. ‘

The following applications were received for next year’s tournaments:— Doininion: Hawke’s Bay .and Wellington. North Island: Auckland, .South Auckland and Manawatu. South Island: Nelson and South Canterbury. Medals: Nelson. Mallets: Manawatu, Wanganui and Hawke’s Bay. The Manawatu Association sent in the following remit:—“That the conditions governing the competition in connection with the N.Z.C.C. country cups be altered.” After much discussion an amendment was agreed to “that the council give sympathetic consideration to clubs where special conditions prevail.”
