NELSON RECIPIENT. Per Press Association. NELSON, Jan. 18. Mr H J. Thornton, secretary of the Nelson Education Board, lias been awarded a travelling scholarship of the Carnegie Corporation of New York to study educational administration over seas. Mr Thornton leaves New Zealand in March and, after visiting Australia proceeds to England, France, the United States and Canada. The scope of his investigations in eludes the centralisation t and decentralisation of administration, teachers salary scales, school staffing 'schedules, school buildings, grounds, school furniture and equipment, rural education and visual education. Mr Thornton, who lias a wide reputation as an efficient administrator, was formerly as-sistant-secretary of the Wanganui Education Board and secretary of the Taranaki Board.
