WHIROKINO HIGHWAY

CONSTRUCTION OF RAMP. PILES BEING DRIVEN. Pile-driving for the construction of the long ramp to lead to bridge is well under wav at Whirokino. on the Palmerston North-Foxton-Welhng-ton main highway, and is expected to be completed by the end of March. The piles are being driven to an average depth of 25ft. in a sand foundation and the construction of the first sections of the actual trestle ramp will soon be put in hand. All the steel required for reinforced concrete work has arrived, and the concrete boxing is being prepared. Though the necessary roan formation to lead to the ramp has been finished, it is anticipated that it will be at least another twelve months before the -whole o! the improvement work is completed.
