MATRON’S REPORT. Reporting to the monthly mooting of the Palmerston North Hospital Board, yesterday, the matron of the Ayvapuni Home (Miss D. Wright) stated that at the end of December there were 64 patients in the institution, admissions in the month totalling six. Nurse Cowman had resigned to take further training, and Nurse Clausen had resigned, Nurse Pedersen being appointed to fill the latter vacancy. Sister Smith had sent in her resignation also. Books and periodicals had been received from the following: Mrs Avern and the Cosmopolitan Club; cakes from Mrs Newman; fruit from Mr Kensington, two cushions from the Red Cross Sewing Guild, soft drinks from Dixon’s, Ltd.,, beer from the Cosmopolitan Club and Mr A. Just.
Entertainments had been given by the Y.W.C.A. The Hospital Auxiliary had also donated cakes, fruit and sandwiches and a large birthday cake, and the Methodist Girls’ Club had left a case of fruit. Mrs D. Watson had brought Father Christmas and a party, when a gift had been made to each inmate and a special Christmas cake also given the home. The United Evangelical Church choir and the Church of England had also held special Christmas services. Donations of money had been received from the Women Hospital Auxiliary (£5 ss) the Manawatu Women’s Club (£3 3s), the Lutheran Church Women’s Guild (£2) and the St. Vincent de Paul Society (£2).
