PAHIATUA, Jan. 17. Misses E. Taylor and E. Ashby, of Palmerston North, have been visiting Pahiatua. Aliss AI. Aloran has returned from a holiday at Taka pun a., Auckland. Mr and Airs R. T. Adams have returned from a visit to Hawke’s Bay. Air and Airs S. K. Siddells have returned from a holiday spent at AVaitarere Beach. Air a.nd Mrs Godfrey Taylor have as their guest Airs EL Taylor, of Karori, AAhrilington. The Alangamutu Tennis Club received. a visit from a team from the Kumeroa Club over the week-end, beating them by 14 sets 127 games to 10 sets 116 games. The temperature recorded in Pahiatua yesterday was 91 degrees in the shade, it being the highest for 14 years.

In a cricket match on Saturday the Eketahuna team gained an innings victory over Pahiatua. Pahiatua were dismissed for 49 runs in their first innings and 45 in their second. Eketahuna put on 120 in their strike. Aluuriceville beat Alangamaire by default. Arising out of an accident in the Hamua Gorge late on Thursday night, John Joseph Savage, of Solway, was charged, at Eketahuna with being intoxicated while driving a car. Air Burridge, who appeared for defendant, entered a plea of not guilty. After evidence had been heard defendant was fined £lO and his license cancelled for six months. A week was allowed in which to pay the fine.
