CYCLIST’S OMISSION.
A SELECTOR’S VIEAVS. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 18. Discussing the Auckland Amateur Cycling Centre’s objection to the omission of E. G. L. Hughes from the Empire Games team, Mr R. Hill, one of the selectors, said this morning that Hughes’s inclusion was, in the first place, only tentative and was subject to revision after the second trials at Christchurch oil January 7 and 8. At the second trials Hughes’s performance did not warrant his inclusion. _ Mr Hill said that Hughes should have been advised that his selection was only tentative and, although this was not stated when the nominations were submitted, most of the riders knew this was the case. The suggestion that Hughes should be sent at the cost of omitting Giles was absurd for, if any of New Zealand cyclists won anything, it would be Giles.
