HEATS AT NELSON. Per Press Association. NELSON, Jan. 18. The final day of the junior a.nd intermediate swimming championships commenced this morning with heats in four events. In the 50 yards junior girls’ breaststroke M. Stewart (Otago) registered 40 4-ssec.—only two-fifths of a second outside the New Zealand record. Results: 100 yards junior girls’ free-style.— First heat: N. Kira (Bay of Plenty) 1, M. Stewart (Otago) 2, B. AVesterby (Southland) 3; time, 1.15 2-5. Second heat: D. Wilson (Canterbury) 1, E. Goldthorpe (Otago) 2, H. Wilkins (Nelson) 3; time, 1.20 1-5. The winner only qualified. 220 yards intermediate boys’ freestyle.—First heat; J. Cameron (Southland) 1, C. Ferguson (Otago) 2, D. Yates (Auckland) 3; time, 2.39 2-5. Second heat: R. Marshall (Canterbury) 1, M. Ryan (Taranaki) 2, 0. Vaughan (Wellington) 3; time, 2.46 1-5.

100 yards intermediate girls’ freestyle.—First heat: Miss K. Grey (Auckland) 1, Miss P. Watts (WangfPnui) 2, Miss E. Nisbet (Wellington) 3; time, 1.6 4-5. Second heat: Miss C. Garven (Otago) 1, Miss E. (Auckland) 2. Miss M. McKechnie (Wellington) 3; time. 1.8 2-ssec.
