RINKS CHAMPIONSHIP. SIX UNBEATEN TEAMS. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Jan. 17. To-day’s programme in the New Zealand howling tournament comprised the fifth and sixth rounds of the rinks championship, which were played under conditions as near perfect as could he desired. The weather was again brilliantly fine and the greens were extremely fast. At the end of plav six rinks were still unbeaten. The leaders in the various sections, with the two final rounds of the section play to be decided to morrow, are as follow :— 1
Section A. —Veitch (West Harbour), six wins.
Section B. —Gagliardi (Edgeware), Lloyd (Caledonian), each five wins. Section C. —Nelson (Dunedin), six wins, Marks (Christchurch) five wins. Section D. —MacGillivray (Roslyn) and Ferguson (Balmacewan), each five wins.
Section E. —Hosking (Grey Lynn) and Dowland (St. Kilda), each five wins. / Section F.-—Aitchison (Caledonian) and Wilson (Linwood), each five wins.
Section G. —Piper (Maitai), five wins.
Section H. —Devereux (Ka.ikorai) and Madsen (Opawa). each six wins. Section I.—Richards (Roslyn) and Watts (Victoria), each five wins. Section J. —Britten (Sydenham), six wins, Tyrrell (Roslyn) and Gardiner (Dunedin), each five wins. Section L. —Huntley (Roslyn), five wins.
The game that produced the most sensational finish in the tournament so far was undoubtedly that played today on the Roslvn green in Section J between F. Anderson (Roslyn) and Honeyman (Otago). When the kitty was rolled, up on the last head Honevman had the commanding lend of 27 points to 21. Anderson, therefore, wanted seven shot bowls to pull the game nut of the fire. Second round: Horton 17 v. Young, Nicholson, Purdie, Willis, skip (St. Clair) 27. The four Colquhoun brothers, including J. A. Colquhoun, of Palmerston North were equally unsuccessful in the first two rounds. Results: First round: Colquhoun Bros. (Phoenix) 19 v. Brown, Seymour, Anderson, Morrison, skip (Cashmere Hills) 25.
