A dozen police cars, on night patrol, picked ii)) Scotland . Yard’s broadcast, circulated immediately after a theft announcing a “smash and grab” raid in a fur shop in Eastham, describing a stolen saloon car in which the thieves were decamping. The police cars daslied to the shop and one challenged a saloon car in tlie neighbourhood. The driver accelerated to 70 miles per hour. With the police car in pursuit, it sped down the street for half a mile, attempted to swerve into a side street, skidded and turned round. The police car crashed into it and flung it against an electric standard. The police found the driver killed and two of the other occupants seriously injured. Five fur coats were in the car.
