NEW BRIDGE.

HIGHWAY IMPROVEMENTS. A few chains on the of Cheltenham, on the Feilding-Kimbol-ton Highway, a wooden bridge is at present being replaced l>v a reinforced concrete one. While the work is in progress traffic is being diverted to an improvised temporary structure on the side. It will he remembered bv those familiar with this highway that the old bridge was built several inches . Irelow the level of the road,. and it .is pleasing to note that this irregularity is to he rectified when the new bridge is completed, and there will not be any dip in the road. The bed of the creek over which the bridge passes is being excavated to a depth of six to eight feet in order to secure a solid foundation for the new structure, aud the possibility of the concrete work being undermined ,bv flood water will be reduced to a minimum. When this bridge has been completed aud the lengthy wooden bridge over the Kiwitea Stream near Reid’s Line, Feilding, is rebuilt on a new site. cutting out an acute angle on the highway, the traffic route to Kimbolton will be in splendid order and will rank among the best highways in the North Island.
