PAHIATUA
PAHIATUA, Jan. 15. Dr. E. B. Watson has returned from a holiday spent at Waikanae. Mr and Airs T. Burr are spending thenvacation in "Wellington. Air and Airs H. AlcDonald, of Christchurch, have been the guests of Air and Airs W. J. Skilton, of Alangatainoka. Much discussion has surrounded the half-holiday question in Pahiatua, which will receive attention by the Pahiatua Borough Council at its meeting to-night. On Friday a party organised a straw vote among the retailers. The papers were issued to 55 retailers, collected, sealed and delivered to Messrs J. Hutton and L. D. Lovelock, J.P.’s. who checked them over. In all 41 votes were recorded. The voting resulted ; In favour of Wednesday lialf-liolidav, 24; in favour of Saturday half-holiday, 14; informal, 3; total, 41. In a tennis match for the Lett Buttons. on the Mangamutu courts last evening, Miss Tv. O’Brien and Kevin O’Brien boat Airs T. Burr and A. Jones, 40 —34. Hot weather is still being experienced in Pahiatua. On Saturday 83 degrees were registered and at 2 p.m. yesterday 84 degrees were experienced.
