MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
FURTHER REMANDS GRANTED. A further remand for a week was granted in the Magistrate’s Court this morning when a labourer and clerk, Truman Wiltshire, aged 33, of Kongopai Street, Palmerston North, was charged that, on January 8, he obtained from a woman a sum of money by falsely represented that lie would invest £SO for ' lier which would return £4 per iveek and falsely representing further that he had £SOO invested in a betting and book-making business m Palmerston North from which he was getting £25 a week. Accused was also charged that, at Oliakune on December 23, 1936, he forged a cheque for £ls purporting to be drawn on the Bank of New Zealand by W. S. Baird. Thomas Leslie Alexander, alias Avison, a labourer, of Pongaroa, aged 29, was also remanded for a week on a charge of theft of £lO4 6s 9ld, the property of the Puketoi Football Union. He was also charged with being on the Wodville racecourse while a prohibited person. , „„ Frederick Owen Amos was fined and costs for negligently driving a cai in the Square. Messrs W. F. Durward and G. ivl. Ranson, J.P.’s were on the Bench.
