BOWLING
SOUTH CANTERBURY VISIT. VICTORY OVER MANAWATU. Played on the Northern Club’s green yesterday afternoon, the match between the touring South Canterbury bowling team and a Manawatu Centre team resulted in a win for the visitors by 140 points to 111. The surface of the green was exceptionally keen, and the bowling of good standard. A welcome was extended by the president of the Northern Club (Mr C. N. Rabone), while the president of the centre (Mr J. A Nash) expressed thanks to the visitors for including Palmerston North in their itinerary. He hoped that the stay in the city would be pleasant. Returning thanks, the president of the South Canterbury Centre (Mr C. W. Wood) paid a tribute to North Island hospitality and invited the Manawatu players to visit Timaru. Mr Wood was presented with Northern Club and Manawatu Centre badges. The games resulted as follow: Caskery, Menzies, Berry, Carlton, skip (South Canterbury) 20 v. The South Canterbury players were loud in their praises ofvthe green, stating that it was the keenest they had played on during their tour. LADIES PLAY AT FEILDING. The Feilding Ladies’ Bowling Club entertained the South Canterbury Ladies’ Club rink yesterday afternoon when a friendly game was indulged m. The weather was fine and an enjoyable afternoon was spent. The visiting rink scored consistently until the last head, when they forged ahead to win by a margin of six points. Their total score was 23 as against Feilding’s 17. The respective rinks were: —South Canterburv: Mesdames Carlton, Currie, Manning, Scales (skip). Feilding: Mesdames A. Cantwell, E. Green, G. Wilkinson, W. Towler (skip). Mrs A. Williamson (president) welcomed the visitors during the afternoon tea interval and said that theFeilding ladies were happy to indulge in a game with the southern rink. Mrs F Moore made mention of the success of the Feilding ladies’ rink in a match against the British ladies rink at Palmerston North early this week.
