STOCK JUDGING
YOUNG FARMERS’ COMPETITION
FOR ROYAL SHOW’. One of the most ambitious projects of the kind is to be conducted at the Royal Show at Palmerston North in November, under the auspices of the Young Farmers’ Clubs of the Manawatu- Open to members of the 135 clubs throughout the Dominion, • the contest is to take the form of a’ stock judging competition, embracing sheep, fat stock, and dairy stock, the bulk of the cost to be met by the Manawatu clubs and the remainder by contributions from the competing clubs. The scheme was submitted to a meeting of the Manawatu District Council in Palmerston North yesterday afternoon by Mr A. J. Galpin, of the Department of Agriculture, and was warmly supported. Mr Galpin suggested that each club be invited to send a team, these members to be billeted in the city. There would be no financial burden on the A. and P. Association, which would only be asked to include the competition on the programme of the Royal Show.
Mr Galpin further suggested that the winning team be granted a visit to Australia lo compete at the Royal Show at Svdney. The clubs could assist financially towards the cost of billeting their teams in Palmerston North. Mr S. Freeman (Dominion organiser) said he thought the idea a wonderful one. and assured the meeting of his whole-hearted support. Air E. W. Barnett expressed the opinion that the suggestion was a workable one. Th A. and P. Association had already agreed to support the scheme and to co-operate with the Messrs K. Mitchell, B. Chrvstall and J. Giovn were, with Air Galpin. elected a committee to investigate the matter and furnish a report to the executive. committee. Keenness was displayed by members, several assurances of support being advanced.
