KITCHEN TEA.

Air and Mrs W. Schlierike, of Haydon Street, held a kitchen tea in honour of Miss J. Cleaver, of Iteefton, on Wednesday evening, in view of her approaching marriage to Mr R. It. Herbert, of Palmerston North. Mrs Schlierike received her guests wearing a tailored rust frock relieved with white, while Miss Cleaver had chosen blue matalasse crepe. Iceland poppies and spring flowers were arranged in the drawing-room, where games, competitions and dancing were enjoyed. The music was supplied by Messrs M. Reid and W. Fenton. After supper had been served the guest of honour was called upon to open numerous parcels, which revealed a varied and useful collection. Mr Herbert expressed thanks to all who had made the evening such a success, and musical honours were accorded the young couple. Competitions were won by Mrs G. Colpman and Miss M. Schlierike. Among those present were Mesdames A.' Herbert, G. Colpman, V. Doull, W. Schlierike, Misses F. Walther (Voodville), D. Newtli, P. Hancox, M. and R. Schlierike, Messrs W. Schlierike, R. Herbert, Iv. Metcalfe, W. Fenton, G. 'Colpman, M. Reid and L. Titchener.

The fortnightly dance conducted by the West End School Committee proved a most enjoyable function when it was held this week, Mr J. Dalziel being M.C. The floor was in good order and old-time dancing was enjoyed to bright music. Supper was served by the ladies’ committee.
