STEWARD OF RACING CLUB. MR L. A. ABRAHAM RETIRES. Having served for almost half » century as a steward of the Manawatu Racing Club, Mr L. A Abraham did not seek re-election at last evening’s annual meeting oil account or ill-health. The opportunity was taken to place on record appreciation or (lie part which he had played in raising the club to its present high standard. The president, Mr C. Louisson, said it was with profound regret that the club had to lose the services of Mr Abraham, who had taken a live interest in its affairs for close on oO years. There was, however, he added, consolation in the fact that Mr Abraham s son, Mr L. M. Abraham, wall to fill the vacancy. “Let us hope that lie will be a steward as long as his father,” concluded Mr Louisson. Mr H. R. Cooper said that he had been a steward for 33 years, and ho was in a position to know just how milch Mr Abraham had done for the club. 111-health had compelled Mr Abraham to lay down the responsibilities of office, and Mr Cooper expressed the hope that Mr Abraham would enjoy a speedy recovery. (Applause.; A motion to place on record appieciation of Mr Abraham’s services was carried by acclamation. In reply, Mr Abraham said that lio had had'a very happy time in the service of the club. “Our success is due,” he added, “to the comradeship which always exists under a particularly capable and genial head.’ He thanked members for their resolution and said that he felt honoured that his son had been elected to the vacancy.
