Woods (general secretary. Apologies for absence were received horn Messrs J. C. Young, G. Eliott, and Alex. Clai k. As this was a special meeting of the board, at which certain important matters were under discussion, the members met 'for tea'prior to tlie meeting The general secretary reported that all classes had commenced practices for tlie*annual gymnastic display to be held in October. The committee formed to introduce new ideas into the programme had held several meetings, and had now a definite plan to work upon The activities of this committee would undoubtedly make a new departure in the presentation of the display this year A visit was made to All Saints’ Church for the evening service on Sunday, July. 20, by members of the board and classes, with ’an excellent attendance. I lie Optimist Club continued to enjoy good attendance at luncheons, while tlie interest was being well maintained - A cheque for £SO had been received from the Mayor from the grant aliocated to this city by Lord Nuffield. This had been placed in a trust account, and would he operated upon along f lie lines as indicated by Lord Nuffield. Three teams, the general secretary reported further, in tbe ladies section of the interliouse basketball competition, were even in points on the filial evening’s play for the I'ora Clip. Intense interest was taken in the final when Glaxo met Rosco, the former winning the cup for the season by 16—12. the men’s section woiild be finalised on August 25. Arrangements were in hand to hold the anlitial basketball dinner oil Septemlier 8. The senior men’s class met the ladies’ class for a social evening. A very eiijovahlc function had been held. The result to date of Red Triangle Day totalled £lls 12s 7d. The boys’ work secretary reported that 111 hoys were at present enrolled in the . various classes. A very keen stage had been reached in the various, groups in the points competitions. Points were given weekly for attendance, discipline, etc., and in the various games and group work. Tlie club programme, with its definite religious, physical and social ideals, was carried out during the month. The hoys’ work secretary had given weekly Bible-training talks: In tbe primary group only nine points- separated the four teams for supremacy. Competition in tlie secondary group was also reported as being very keen. The apparatus session was proving as popular as'ever, while their basketball competition, organised by themselves was conducive of some very good games. Tlie younger men’s department continued to ' riieet regularly, various stunt and social evenings having been held. A speaker had been Mr G. C. Petersen, speaking on “Maori Magic.” A trophy presented recently was expected to add even further to the keen interest being shown in the basketball competition. The Hi-Y Club, a group of senior boys in tbe secondary school group_ who helped to plan the month’s activities, bad held a challenge match recently against the Feilding Boys’ Club at handball and table tennis. Tbe visitors bad been . successful in both handball games, while the local 1 boys bad won tbe table-tennis series.: On the sports field, tbe soccer clul»| was reported as fielding a team strong in team-spirit and good sportsmanship. Though but occupying third place in the championship, keen enjoyment of their games was'being experienced by the players. The hockey team continued to win with ease all its games in the recently formed competition. Six players in the Y.M.C.A. team had been chosen for the Palmerston North schoolboy representative teani to play at Auckland shortly. Tbe library had been built up during the season, many new books having been added, thanks to the generosity of board members and others.
