REPERTORY SHOW
The public of Palmerston North will he pleased to learn that the Manawatu Repertory Society is to present another of its renowned productions in the Empire Hall. Those who enjoyed the characterisation and comedy of ‘‘The Late Christopher Bean” can expect a performance of equal merit, though the piay is of a different type. While “The Late Christopher •Bean” was essentially a. comedy of situation and character, “The Shining Hour” has a deeper appeal. This famous drama of Keith Winter’s was first produced in New York in 1934 with an outstanding cast, including Gladys Cooper, Raymond Massey, and Adrienne Allen. By concentrating on plays of true repertory standard, this society has maintained a very high level of production, and has shown that there are many gifted amateurs in our midst. The cast is most promising, and all who are interested in modern drama would do weff to set aside one of the nights from August 26, 27, and 28 for this play.
London has in its women’s police force, one superintendent, three inspectors, eleven sergeants and sixty constables.
