BROTHERS’ SCHOOL BAZAAR
OPENING SESSION. WELL-STOCKED STALLS. The Brothers’ School Bazaar, which opened in the Empire Hall this afternoon, attracted a good attendance. The stalls, which were gaily decorated with bunting, offered a splendid array of articles for sale, and were the result of weeks of preparation on the part of a large band of enthusiastic workers. . . The object of the bazaar is to form the. nucleus of a fund for the purpose of building a secondary school in Palmerston North conducted by the Christian Brothers, and already considerable interest has been aroused by this project. A section of land in Amesbury Street is' being held in reserve with this object in view. The committee in charge of the organisation of the bazaar is capably headed by Mr A. J. Smith and the joint secretaries are Messrs J. Barnao and W. Laird. It includes two representatives from each stall. Great assistance has been given by the country districts surrounding Palmerston North, under the leadership of Mrs Parsons (Kairanga).
The stalls are: Sports, in charge of the Hibernian Society; Caledonian; St. Vincent de Paul Society’s stall; sweets, Children of Mary; produce, country ladies; variety, 3rd Order of St. Francis; and jumble stall. A large and willing band of ladies is giving assistance. Afternoon tea and supper arrangements are in charge of the ladies’ committee of St. Patrick’s Convent School. Spring flowers gave the tearooms a gay appearance to-day. The bazaar, which will be officially opened to-night, continues in the afternoon and evenings until Saturday.
