ANIMAL DISEASES.

HELP FOR BRITISH FARMERS,

(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Aug. 15.

The Minister of Agriculture (Mr W. S. Morrison) is making good progress with the plans for carrying out that part of the Government’s new agriculture proposals .which relate to the elimination of animal diseases. The changes which will result in the placing of the entire veterinary service on a national basis are likely to come into effect at the beginning of next year. Jn particular of dangerous diseases scheduled under the Diseases of Animals Acts, inspection of herds with a view to ensuring cleaner milk supply, and reports on markets will be matters transferred from the local authorities to the Ministry itself. Extensive plans are already being made for co-ordinating research on a number of difficult problems of animal diseases. In his statement to Parliament Mr Morrison expressed the hope that the measure the Government conteinplated to reduce the wastage farmers experienced through disease would be a considerable contribution to the prosperity of the farming community.
