BOBBY CALVES.
RATES FOR CARTAGE,
AN INCREASE MADE,
WELLINGTON, Aug. 16
Carrying rates for bobby calves are increased 25 per cent, over the basic rate for 1936, with a minimum charge of Is a head, by decision of the No. 2 Transport Licensing Authority, Mr P. Skoglund, as the result of an inquiry. Tho decision, which affects'the No. 2 Licensing District only, is as follow s:
That where a price has been mutually agreed upon by the carrier and the buying firm, the agreement is to stand. That where agreement has not been reached the charge for carrying is to bo increased by an amount equal to a 25 per cent, increase on the basic rate for IS"6. The basic rate for 1936 being Is, the carrying rate for 1937 will therefore be increased by 3d per head over the price paid last year, tho minimum charge to be Is per head. The increase of 3d per head represents the estimated increase in running costs of the vehicles over last year’s costs. In the event of any arrangement regarding the price to be paid, the dispute is to be referred to the Licensing Authority for a decision. The Licensing understands that the Government iV at present considering the subject of rationalisation of the bobby calf industry, but that finality in this connection has not yet been reached. In the meantime the rates for carrying fixed by the authority are to be adhered to.
