ROUND TABLE CLUB.
TALK BY CHILD WELFARE OFFICER. Tlio speaker at the fortnightly meeting of the Business and Professional Women’s Round Table Club, last evening, was Miss C. Jenkins, child welfare officer. Mfss C. Warbnrton .presided over a good attendance. Miss Jenkins gave the members an insight into her work which is a special schools’ branch of the Education Department, to show that not only delinquent children, but the afflicted, backward and destitute came under her care. Miss Jenkins wont on to show how adjustments were made so that all these children were assured of a square deal and a chance to take their proper place in the community. She made a plea for the delinquents who were often lonely and longing for sympathy and support, and said that wonderful results had been obtained when their confidence was gained. The work of the various institutions was touched unon and the preventive measures carried out, the aim of the officers being that all these unfortunate children should he given a chance. Thanking the speaker, Miss Hindle said it was not given to many to touch the ins and outs of life and Miss Jenkins’s wide experience must have a definite broadening effect on the members. It was satisfying work and it
was gratifying to realise the wealth of love given by the welfare officers in i helping young people to make their adjustments and for the public to, know some one was standing at the ! back of them. Such work must make a definite mark on the nation. Mr R. H. Billcns dealt with cur rent events.
