TE ARAKURA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) TE ARAKURA, Aug. 13,
The August meeting of tho Tc Arakura Women’s Institute was held this week. Mrs Haythorne presided and after extending a welcome to the visitors read the motto for the month, “Trying to give other people a good time is a sure way of enjoying yourself.” Apologies for absence were received from Mesdamcs Firth, Wallace, Wilkins, and F. Checthani. Three new members were enrol.ed and welcomed —Mrs Davies, Mrs Saline, and Miss Curtis. An invitation was received from the Makino. Institute to attend their birthday celebrations early next month, also to the Bunnythorpc Institute’s dance. Mrs Danielson extended congratulations to the members of the drama circle for their success at the Drama Festival, also the British Drama League Festival held recently. Letters of congratulation were also received from other drama circles. It was decided to alter the date of the next meeting to j September 15 owing to tho “Awatra”_ group meeting being held on the second Wednesday. The competition for the best knitted child's singlet resulted: —Mrs Griffith 1, Mrs Fitzgerald 2, Mrs Tait 3. Junior class, Miss M. Burnham. Best scones, Mrs Danielson 1, Mrs Haythorne 2, Firs .J. H. Bennett 3. These same competitions are to bo held at the group meeting next month ami the singlets are later to be given to charity. Flower competition: Iceland poppy, Mrs Tail; polyanthus primrose, Firs. Rutherford. A very interesting lecture was given by Miss Curtis on liev travels in England, Scotland, Sweden, and Canada. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdamcs Bradley, Sorenson, Burnham, Griffin and Mis,s J. Burnham, after which Mrs Thomas gave an interesting report of tho group committee meeting held at Bunnythorpe. A vote of thanks was extended to tho hostesses, .stall _ steward and the judges of the competitions, Miss Curtis, Firs I’ackw-ood, Mrs Sanne, and Firs Davies. Flower competition, daffodil, anemone, ranunculus.
Another competition match in the FJanawatu Table Tennis Association series was piaved this week in the city between the St. Patrick’s B and Tc Arakura teams. The game resulted in a win for To Arakura, 23 —13. The team representing To Arakura were Miss 1,. Gore. Miss J. Bennett, J. Gore. A. Hansen, J. Sorenson and A. Thomas.
