EAT IVETHERS BRING 40s 7d

At the Foilding stock sale yesterday dairy cattle advanced in value by probably 30s per head, with keen competition for the small yarding. Best quality heifers closo to profit made £lO 5s and springing cows to £9. Quotations are: —Springing heifers, £4 10s, £5 10s, £5 17s Gd. £6. £6 ss. £8 Bs, £8 15s, £9 ss, £9 15s, £lO ss, the last mentioned being one on account the Pearce Estate; 2nd. calvers, £6, £6 10s. £7. £8; springing cows. £5 15s, £6, £6 ss, £6 10s, £6 12s Cd, £7, £7 ss. £7 10s, £7 15s, £B. £8 ss, £8 TOs, £8 15s; cows in milk, £3 10s, £3 12s Gd, £3 17s 6d. £4 10s, £4 15s. £5 7s 6d; cows and calves, £6, £7 ss.

Eat cattle. —Prime ox beef sold very briskly, at firm prices, the highest reaching equal to 32s 6d per 1001 b. Prime heifers made equal to 30s. Store cattle. —The market was firm, prices for boner cows being maintained at the usual level. Quotations are: Cows. £2. £2 Gs. £2 7s Gd. £2 15s, £2 19s, £3. £3 2s Gd. to £4 2s Gd; yearling P.A. steers, £G 6s; 2-yr. P.A. heifers, £5 15s; yearling heifers, £2 8s Gd.

Eat sheep—Eat sheep were very firm at previous rates, with jDerhaps a hardening tendency in the market for fat ewes. Primest heavy wethers with plenty of wool made 40s, while a small line of maiden ‘ewes realised the same figure. Fat hoggets were barely up to previous levels. Eat ewes: J. Greenhow topped the market for fat ewes with two pens of 29 and 40 for ■which he realised 39s Sd and 39s Gd, respectively. The next top price was obtained by Ngaio Station, which lor a choice line of 21 secured 39s Id. A smaller pen on account of 11. D. Brewster of similar quality sold at a penny less. N. J. Short sold a pen of 15 at 38s 9d and these, too, were excellent quality sheep. A pen of 21 ewes of good quality made 375, while Gd less was realised by H. Wilson for two pens containing 38 ewes. llal-combe-grown ewes, nine in tho pen, sold at 355. . Three Ngaio Station maiden ewes made 35s 3d and 34 maiden ewes on account- 11. Wilson realised 32s <<l; j other lines on account the same vendor made 34s Bd, 34s Gd, and 31s. 1A line of four realised 31s, while Stanway district ewes were valued at 30s Gd. Pohangina ewes offered by J. .Sinclair were sold at 30s; there were 21 in the line. Twelve realised 325. IA single entry made 275; five 2-tn. maiden ewes realised 37s 9d, while an- ! other pen of three ewes made 3os. Ine I sum of 37s was paid for a single entry I and £2 for three maiden ewes. Eight : were valued at 20s, and eight at 2os. Pens of nine and three Colyton ewes made 35s Gd and 28s 9d, respectivelyEat hoggets.—‘A single entry on account B. Algie realised 38s. . It was well grown and heavy in wool. A pen of choice hoggets sold at 29s while two on account M. E. Whitehend changed ownership at- 26s 9d. containing 20 and 21 were: disposed of at 28s and- 2os 9d. respectively. A pen of 30 Stanway.grown hoggets were worth 22s 9d ; 34 made 24s 3d and 18 were disposed of at 24s 5(1. A n * tractive line of 25 offered by J- McLennan realised 26s 4d. Other quotations were: 21s 4d for a pen of 0, 23s 9d for'a pen of 27, 22s 3d for a line of 15. 21s Gd for an offering ot 23, 21s 8d for 20. and 21s for 10. Blackfaces. —A choice line of 2-ths. on account D. P. Buchanan made 36 s lOd ; three changed hands at 26s 9d and 14 at 25s 7d Wethers.—E. W. Blatchford topped the market with a pen of eight prime woollv wethers which made 40s 7(1. Kiwitea wethers were favoured at 3Js Gd and 395. Twenty-six Feilrling distriefc wethers sold at 38s. while Rancitikei sheep made 36s Gd and oos 3d. Several pens of shorn wethers on ancount E. Short Est. sold at 27s 4d Other quotations were: 22 at 38s, 29 at 37s 7d, 2 at 38s SkL 9 at oSs, 28 at 37s Id. 7 at 335. 23 at 32s 9d. Store : sheep. —Store hoggets were slightly easier in value, and there were very few pens of breeding ewes on offer. •; . Hoggets—Ewes : Sixty-six M aituna sheep made 325, and another line containing 75 of similar quality changed hands at 32s Id. while 148, also good ewes, made 31s Id. Newbury ewes in pens of 118, 38, and 34 realised 325, 30s Id. and 25s 4d. Waituna-grown female hoggets were disposed of at 32s lOd. Other lines sold were 33 at 22s Id. 95 at 32s Id. and three at 31s. Breeding ewes. —2. 4 and 6-ths made 25s 2d; 32 4 ami 5-yr. Colyton breeding ewes realised 255. .and a single also Colyton-bred. made only 13s; 15 2-th. ewes r.w. rams brought 30s. Blackfaces.—Sixty-two were sold at 23s 7d. and Ashhurst-grown sheep, with 18 in the pen, made 22s 4d ; 91 on account E. 0. Bailey were knocked down at 22s Id. Other realisations were: Eiftv-four at 20s Id, 24 at 20s lid. 22 at 20s, 139 at 20s. GO at 19s Gd. G 7 at 18s 7d. 114 at 15s. 30 at 13s Gd. Wethers. —A pen of a dozen on account M. J. Price nmde top price 26s Gd: 32 on account a Palmerston North vendor realised 265. AUCTIONEERS; REPORTS. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on the Podding sale as under: —A smaller yarding than usual came forward in all sheep sections at yesterday’s fixture. In the stoic sheep section the entry comprised principally ewe and wether hoggets, for which a strong sale resulted, values being on a par with last week’s rates. Just odd pens of ewes r.w. rams came forward, these meeting with a? ready sale. A good yarding of fat slvcep of all classes met a ready sale, at : ‘ full late rates. Cattle: Fat cattle, Which comprised principally cows ex tthc dairy, sold freely, with values well up to those ruling last week. A Smaller entry of both dairy cows and heifers .was penned. anything showing quality and close to' profit meeting with a ready sale. The usual number of store and potter cows met wit'll a 'good sale throughout. Dairy: Cows, £3 ss, £4, £5, £5 10s, £6, £6 10s, £B, £8 10s, £10; heifers spg, £5 ss, £5 12s Gd, £6, £6 10s, £7 2s 6d, £9 ss. Dalgety and Company, Ltd., report lighter entries at the Feilding sale yesterday; a fair yarding of fat hoggets was penned with competition sound on late rates. Eat wethers were in demand and sold to a stronger tone, whilst fat ewes, which comprised the major entry in this section, showed no advance. Breeding ewes were represented by a few pens of odds and ends. Hoggets of both seises came forward in fair numbers, and in the entry' some very attractive lines were included. The attendance was small, and competion was a little erratic, but best sorts commanded good competition with prices firm. Black face hoggets carrying any wool were also more strongly competed for. The entry of beef was a fair average one, with a sound sale. Practically no store cattle other than store dairy cows came to hand. In tho dairy pens a fair quality yarding was submitted, with active competition for anything close to profit.
