NOTES.
During the absence of Bov. J. H. Allen, wlio is at present visiting Wellington, services at the Feilding Methodist Church are to be conducted by Mr J. Silvester, a senior divinity student of Trinity College, Auckland. Mr Allen is a member of the Methodist Home Mission Board, and is making an annual appeal on behalf of the Home and Maori Mission Denartment. Mr George Dewe, of Edmonton, Canada, who is a visitor to Feilding, after spending some months in the South Island on a lecturing tour on the beauties of Canada, with illustrated lantern slides, entertained the teachers and scholars of the Manchester Street School on Friday afternoon, his subject being “Memorable Events on the Fast Clipper Sailing Ship Scimitar.” This vessel made a record voyage of 71 days from Plymouth, England, to Port Chalmers, New Zealand, in 1874. The lecture captured the close attention of both teachers and children, and Mr Dewc was accorded a hearty' vote
of thanks. As a compliment to the lecturer, the children sang New Zealand’s National Anthem. There was a good attendance at the fortnightly ingleside held by the Feilding Caledonian Pipe Band. Music was supplied by a Palmerston North orchestra and Mr A. Wright was M.C. An energetic ladies’ committee was responsible for supper. In the novelty’ dances those who were lucky were as follow :—Monte Carlo, Miss Lankshear and Mr It. Merritt; lucky spot log c*»bin dance, Mr J. It udder ford and Miss Moss; lucky gay Gordons, Miss McErlick and Mr McKay. The holders of the lucky door tickets were Mrs Wemyss and Mr It. Lamberton.
