LAMBING SEASON.

Although on the higher country the lambing season is not yet advanced sufficiently to report upon, it was gathered to-day that in the Colyton district, where lambing is in full swing, there lias been a good sprinkling or twin lambs born, and the prospects ot good percentages over the season are bright. The weather conditions have, of course, an important heanng on a successful season, and it is pleasing to state that so far the conditions have been favourable. Though cold, there have not been any storms to cause mortality or setbacks in the grow th o lambs born early in the spring. With warmer weather approaching t is the opinion of sheep farmers in the bedding district that the lambin o season will prove a good one _ , As stated previously in the ~tand

ard,” there have been losses sustained in ewes owing to the incidence of sleeping sickness, but now that pastures are on the move and growth is noticeable a substantial reduction in tho number of cases is predicted. Mr J. Knight, whose ability and experience enable-him to supply reliable information, states that he has found | that if tho in-lamb ewes are changed , from their usual quarters to fresh paddocks and fed with a quantity of green oats or other supplementary fodder for a period the risk of sleeping sickness being experienced is considerably lessened.
