UNEMPLOYED MEETING

As the result of a meeting held in the Kosy Hall on Thursday night, it was decided that a local unemployed workers’ organisation be formed. Mr H. W. Klein, as chairman of the convening committee, occupied the chair, and informed the meeting of the discussions that had taken place in the last month in connection with the betterment of conditions of the unemployed. and dealt with the necessity of an organisation, individual action having proved itself to be useless. Mr Frank Lee also spoke as one connected with 111© unemployed movement of a few years ago, .and pointed out that with a sympathetic Government in office there were still many points that needed attention. There was also now the opportunity of new co-operation with the trade union movement. This met with the approval of the meeting. A large and representative provisional committee was appointed, nnd Mr Albert Andrews was appointed organiser and delegate to the Labour Bureau. The meeting decided to make arrangements to communicate with the Government regarding the conditions of the local unemployed. It was indicated during the course of the meeting that there should be considerable support for the organisation, which was to be independent in action without isolating itself from the unemployed movements or the trade unions.
