THE SINGER’S GIFT

THROAT SPECIALIST’S VIEWS. BELFAST, . July 25. Other experts have challenged the assertion by the_ throat specialist Sir Milsom Rees at the British Medical Association congress that singing is not a natural gift, that nature has not constructed the vocal chords for that purpose, and that few can really sing.

Fewer, lie asserted, became professionals, and fewer still were successful even after long training. Numerous throat troubles, lie added, affected even the best singers. Nevertheless, the art of singing was only 250 years old, and with improved teaching, experience, anatomical knowledge, and care of the vocal chords, the best voices were probably yet to be heard.

Melba, he said, always had her nose and throat cleansed before her performances.
