AWAHURI INSTITUTE.
Mrs Bond presided at the August meeting of the Awahuri Women’s Institute .and welcomed Miss Grant, Mrs Barnicoat, Mrs W. G. Short, and other members of the Federation Executive who were present. An invitation was received from the Milson Institute to their birthday. It was decided to send a parcel to the Makogai Leper Station, and members were asked to bring to the next meeting articles suitable to send. Mesdames Redmayne and P. Campbell were the delegates appointed to attend the group meeting at Bunnythorpe. For the potato competition this year, members are to plant three potatoes from their own seed. It is hoped that all members will do this. Gladioli . bulbs were given to all 'financial members. Later in the year it is intended to hold a competition for the best blooms 1 rom these. Time passed so quickly that the smocking demonstration had to be a very short one, but Mesdames Lucas and Nicholson will continue tins demonstration at some other meeting. The winners of the competitions were: Flowers, Miss Pearce 1, Mrs Nicholson and Miss Matthews 2, Miss MeCallum 3; wheatmeal scones, Miss Matthews I, Mrs Nicholson 2, \Mrs Rowlands and Miss Pearce 3. The hostesses were Mesdames R. Bennett, Christian and Montgomerie.
