General Bekir Sidky, chief of the Iraq General Staff, and General Ali Jowad, head of the Iraq Air Force, were assassinated as Mosul when on their way. to attend the Turkish military manoeuvres. General Sidky was shot down by a soldier and General Jowad was killed when trying to save General Sidky. The assailant was arrested.
