AVOODVIIjLE, Aug. 12. A quiet hut pretty wedding was solemnised at, Ihc Methodist Church, AVoodvillc, recently, when Elsie Altrift, youngest daughter of Mrs E. A. mill tliol Into Mr Mark Smith, of AA'oodvdlc, was married to George AA'illinm, older son of Mr and Mrs C. W. Squires, of Range Road, AVoodvillc. Rev. 'l*. Coatsworth officiated and Miss I>. Bnrkwith presided nt the organ. In attendance as bridesmaids wore MMs ‘Nola Squires and Mis* Margaret Spademan. Mi- A. Turnbull was the best man and Mr E. Squires ihc groomsman. Mr and Mrs E. F. Nicholson, of AVoodvillc, who leave soon for Tnufnaruhui, were fnrewellcd on Tuesday evening at a social held in the Parish Hall. A pleasant time was devoted to dancing, games, and competitions, items being given by Airs Schroder (vocal solos), Mfissie S. Fuiniin and R. Thorne (vocal duets) and Miss Lorna AVlliteman (elocutionary items). A happy gathering of young people mot at the Victoria Hall on Tuesday evening when Jfr and Airs O. Cunningham, of l’npatawa, gavo a social for the members and friends of tho Pa pat.uv a Basketball Club. Thu president of the Bush Basketball Association (Airs L. T. Russell) was present and presented two trophies donated by Mr A. Fades. The successful members were Miss C. Fades (best gral thrower) and Aliss J. Ead.es (most improved player). Tho captain (Miss I, Rivers) handed Mrs Russell a pretty basket of flowers. The opportunity was taken to pro.'ent gifts to Airs Cunningham (two crystal vases) and Airs It. Morgan (a crystal salad howl and .servers) in appreciation of their services to the club.

Campbell, of Opapa, president of the Southern Hawke’s Bay Federation of Women’s Institutes, was a, guefit at the August meeting of the l’apatawa Institute when a. gratifying attendance was presided over by Aits A. K. Diekins. Tho competitions resulted: Seniors, garden apron made from a sugar bag, Airs \V. Surface; juniors, peg hag mado from a sugar-bag, Miss At. Goldsworthy, In the evening, a number ol -’members paid a surprise visit to the home of Mrs Diekins where Airs Campbell was staying. Aim Diekins presented Airs Campbell with a bouquet as a reminder of her visit to Papatawa. \ Before AlcsSm S. Turnbull and D. Keay, J.l’.’s, in the Woodvillo Magistrate's Court Norman Olsen, aged 23, of Owhango, was charged with driving a inotor-ear in Vogel Street while in a state of intoxication and with driving a car without being tho holder of a driver’s license. Defendant pleaded guilty. On the first charge, defendant was lined £l2 10«, in default one month’s imprisonment, and for not possessing a driver’s license wns fined 10s with costs 10s, in default seven days’ imprisonment.
