AWAHOU.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) AWAIIOU, Aug. 11. Changeable weather has been experienced during the last fortnight, several verv warm spring days being interspersed with others of an extremely boisterous nature. Willow trees have been bare of leaf for a longer time than usual this year as a result of the early frosts, but are now breaking leaf quickly. Young lambs are to be seen in many paddocks, and sheep-farmers will welcome a further spell of warm weather. Good progress is being made at the new bridge, and work on the deviation is still being carried on slowly pending the completion of the structure. A jolly evening was spent recently, when the local friends of Mr and Mrs W. Smart assembled to give them a welcome home. Cards, competitions, and dancing provided amusement. Those present ’ were Mesdames Howell, Clapharn, Montgomery, Misses Smnrt, Fitzherbert. Brewer, Montgomery and Messrs Smart. (2), Bayly, Spelman (3), Howell, Hunt. Fitzherbert (2), Clapharn (2), Harper, Leamy and Montgomery. The euchre party at tho Awahou North School was well attended. Prizes woo won by Miss A. Brown and Mr Bockott and Miss W. Montgomery and .Mr A. Brown. They were donated by Mr B. Bockott. Miss M. Smart has returned from Dunedin and is staying with her parents for a short holiday. Mrs Clapharn spent a few days in Palmerston North recently. Mr R. Port is a member of a party enjoying an Islands cruise. Mr J. Linldater was a week-end visitor to National Park. Mr R. Harper spent a few days in Wanganui recently. Sympathy is extended to the Caldwell ' family in’ the serious illness of Mr.D, Caldwell.
