I Mr and Mrs Andrew Laing, o > Stratford, who celebrated their dia • ■ mond wedding at the week-end, receiver . a cablegram from Their Majesties Kinj George and Queen Elizabeth, and nr fewer than 42 telegrams, including si: ; from overseas and one from the Gov ernor-General, Viscount Galway. Pro gress made during the past 60 year! was referred to at the celebration which was unique, iio fewer than 6( guests from many parts of New Zea land attending. Mr and Mrs Lainc went to Taranaki in 1912 and witr the exception of four years have since lived at Stratford. In the early days Mr Laing built bridges in the Taupe and Rangitikei districts, several of the bridges being still in use to-day. They were in the hotel business at Feilding for several years before going to Stratford to live in retirement.
