OSLO, Aug. 11. A great glacier lake, breaking up, swept down the Simo Valley to Hardanger Fiord, razing farms and killing stock. The approaching roar warned the inhabitants, who, barely escaping death, fled up the hillsides,' from which they saw their hbmes destroyed. The ice left tremendous boulders and ice blocks.
The flood originated in the glacier Hardanger Joekelen, where hot weather had created a new lake under the ice. This pierced the glacier, causing an avalanche of millions of tons or water and ice.
Hardanger Fiord is a narrow sea inlet 20 Hides south of Bergen. It is 9oU feet deep and extends 68 miles north-eastwards without reckoning branches, amidst magniiicent mountain SceliOi'y.
