RANGIOTU
Mr W. Gimblelt, of Alangawhata, has returned from a. visit to England. Miss B. Tania ti, of the staff of the Hastings Memorial Hospital, is visiting her mother, Mrs Te Rangi, at Rangiotu. Alias B. Ryan is spending a holiday at Petone. On Alonday evening a large number gathered at the hall to farewell Mr G. Gurrin, a popular member of the local Post Office staff, who has been transferred on promotion to Napier. An energetic committee, headed by Miss King, spared no effort to make the function a success. Mr D. G. Aloore expressed the regret of the telephone subscribers and the residents of the district generally at the impending departure of the guest of honour. Air Gurrin had been a very courteous and obliging officer and had carried out his official duties to the satisfaction of all. Mr Gurrin had also entered into the social activities of the district and would be greatly missed. Air Aloore asked Air Gurrin to accept a. travelling rug as a token of the high esteem in which he was held. Music for dancing was supplied and Air M. Toogood made an efficient AI.C. There was a largo attendance at the annual ball of the Rangiotu A«aori branch of the Labour Party. Air R. Carkeek carried out the duties of AI.C. Airs Rangi Akuira contributed two Alaori action songs. A Alonte Carlo was won by Mr Joe i.arid:is and Airs D. Larkins, and the lucky Gay Gordons by Mrs Hunter and Miss AI. Ryan and Airs Hunter and Air Rowland. Mr C. L. Hunter, AI.P., congratulated the branch on the success of the danco and thanked them for the invitation extended to Airs Hunter and himself. Supper was served by the ladies’ committee, headed by Airs \V. Larkins.
