MODEL ENGINEERING

PALMERSTON NORTH SOCIETY. A very well-attended annual and special monthly meeting of tho Palmerston North Model Engineering Society was held on Monday evening, when Mr L. Smith presided. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs P. Chalk," G. Young and C. Garrick. The annual report was adopted. A very cheerful tone was stnick in the report of the membership drive committee, which stated that an astonishing amount of interest was displayed in model engineering in Palmerston North. Over 30 persons had been visited by the committee, some pleasant surprises being given by those who had been called upon, when tho committee was shown the workshops and the work in hand. It was with the greatest confidence that tho committee recommended that with the proposed now membership the society should be able to carry on and flourish. In moving the adoption of this report Mr Sigley urged those present to uphold the tone of tho report, for it was only by co-operation that success could be achieved.

The chairman then called for a motion to carry on the society, this being proposed by Mr Cosslett and seconded by Mr Kirk. It was moved by Mr Sigley and seconded by Mr Ax that the Welling-ton-Palmerston North inter-clnb challenge shield competition be held at the next Wellington Easter Show, the Wellington Society to bo advised of this. A letter was received from tho "Wellington Society regarding entries for tho centennial exhibition. —The honorary secretary is to obtain further particulars before a decision will be reached. Tho models and other pieces of interesting work which had remained in tho background were then brought out. Wheels soon buzzed merrily and all was noise, chatter and smoke from petrol engines. Mr Rogerson brought along a very fine drilling machine. In thanking those who bad brought along models, etc., the chairman said the interchange of ideas was a friendly gesture displayed by all model enthusiasts, and he hoped the visitors had spent a very pleasant evening.
