DIAMOND WEDDING.
MR AND MRS C. H. ARROW.
To-day the diamond wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs Charles H. Arrow, Pahiatua, who were married at Waipawa on August 12, 1877, was celebrated.
Mr Arrow, who is 83 years of age, is the second son of the late Major and Mrs Henry Arrow. Major Arrow arrived in Hawke’s Bay with his family in the Strathallen on December 1, 1866, the sailing vessel having taken 105 days on the voyage to New Zealand. Mr Charles Arrow, then a youth, obtained a position on the large run of Mr W. Rathbone, senr., eventually working his way up to head shepherd, and later becoming manager (a position he held for many years) of the large estate at Abbotsford. He subsequently resigned his position to buy and work a prosperous farm of one thousand acres at Makairo, Kumeroa. Later he moved into a large homestead of 11 acres of picturesque land at Pahiatua. Mr Arrow still drives his car 14 miles to his old farm to superintend its working, and to ride around the property. Mrs Arrow was Miss Mary Ellingham, the daughter of an old pioneer of Te Aute.
Mr and Mrs Arrow had eight children, six of whom are living. They also have 14 grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. Their children are Mrs J. Graham (Pahiatua), Mrs G. Heslop (Hawke’s Bay), Mrs G. Ironside (Wanganui), Mrs Ronald Lyon (formerly of Wellington and now living at Pahiatua), Miss Lee Arrow (Pahiatua) and Mr W. Arrow (Hopelands, near Woodville). To-day there was a family gathering.
