MANAWATU V. SOUTHLAND.
MATCH ON MONDAY,
Though there will be no club future* in the Manawatu on Saturday, owing to the Springbok-Now Zealand match being held in Wellington on that day, Rugby patrons who usually follow the games at the Showgrounds will bo well provided for by the meeting of Southland ancl Manawatu on the oval on Monday. 'Throughout a period of years there has been a certain glamour attached to the holding of the Ranfurly Shield, and the Manawatu district is fortunate in having a visit from the province holding the shield this year. Southland’s assaults on the Dunedin stronghold were at last tavoured with success a few weeks ago, and though Southland have held the shield only a short time they confirmed their right to. its possession in defeating Otago, if only by a narrow margin, in the return match. Descriptions of the play on the occasion of the shield contest all paid tribute to the magnificent forward battle the match provided. Followers of Rugby in the Manawatu will now have the opportunity of seeing the Southland side in action. The starting time of the game on Monday has been made as late as possible in order to suit the convenience of the greatest number, and as a result the ball will bo kicked off at 3.30 p.m. With charges of Is for entrance to the ground and. Is to the stands the attendance should be large.
