COUNCIL OF SPORT.

EXPRESSION OF VIEWS. OLYMPIC ASSOCIATION. • Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Aug. 11. The views of the New Zealand Olympic Association concerning the proposed National Council of Sport were formulated at a meeting to-night. They emphasised physical education in schools rather than direct control of sports bodies. The recommendations to the Minister were: (1) The formation of a national council of physical health and recreation ; (2) that there be no compulsion of individuals to take part in a particular sport, but the best method would ■be to provide facilities and equipment dud stimulate the desire for participation ; (3) tiie control of individual sports to be left to the existing national organisations ; (4) a paramount function should be to organise and control compulsory physical education in schools, subject .to a medical examination, using the latest methods in organised recreational games; (5) that physical training be continued until at least the age of 21 years. Other general recommendations included a comprehensive survey of the existing facilities for a sport association, and it was recommended that a fund be provided by lotteries and by the appropriation of the proceeds of the amusement tax.
