PRISONER ESCAPES.

LATER RECAPTURED. Per Press Association. GISBORNE, Aug. 11. Charles Frederick Murphy, a halfcaste Alaori. convicted yesterday on charges of theft and false pretence disappeared from the Gisborne gaol overnight, but was subsequently recaptured at Ruatoria. He had been seen by the gaoler, Mr Davies, a.t 11.30 win. and his cell Was found empty at 6.30 to-dav It is believed that Alurphy cut his way out of the cell with a hacksaw. He was declared .an habitual criminal last week at Napier n.nd has previous- -- converted cars to lus own use. the fact that a fast car was missing from a Gisborne residence this morning was linked with Murphy’s disappearance.
