RUGBY UNION

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. NO FIXTURES ON SATURDAY. The management committee of the Manawatu Rugby Union met last evening, Mr A. M. .Ongley presiding. Others present were Messrs J. A. Colquhonn, K. AY. Eglinton, H. Crawford, AA\ Gleeson, H. J. Hickey, AA r . Carruthers, L. J. Plank and A. Gordon. Apologies for absence were tendered on .behalf of Messrs P. SkogJnnd, J. AV. Smith and J. It. Hardie. Advice -was received from the Wanganui Rugby Union that suggestions had been made to their president, Mr R, C. S. McKenzie, of Bulls, that the Te Kawau Sub-Union, now part of the Manawatu district, should be brought under the control of the Wanganui Union. It was further intimated that the latter was prepared to confer with the Manawatu Union with the object of bringing the whole, or part, of tho Te Kawau territory under the Wanganui Union’s .administration until Manawatu desired to resume control. It was decided, on the motion of the chairman, to advise the A\ ; anganui Union that the Manawatu Union had not at any time censed to exercise jurisdiction over the Te Kawau area, and did not desire to do eo.

The AVaikato Rugby Union wrote stating that the match against Manawatu was to be played at Te Awamutu. The Otago Union wrote asking that Manawatu appoint the referee to control the match to be played at Palmerston North on August 25.—The letter was referred to the referees’ appointment board with a request that they deal with the matter.

The suggestion was advanced, in a letter received from the Wellington Union that the latter’s fourth grade representatives might meet the Manawatu third grade team as a preliminary match to that between Manawatu and North Otago on August 28.—1 t was resolved to make arrangements for the fixture.

Application was made by tho United Club for the transfer of J. Burton, It. Hyde, N. Adamson and B. AA r alker to that club from tho Bunnythorpe Club.—Owing to the advanced stage of tho season, it was decided not to sanction the transfers.

Arrangements were made for tho Manawatu representative team to leave on its northern tour by the first express on August 2. The Chief Justice, Rt. Hon. Sir Michael Myers, wrote thanking the union for forwarding him a ticket for tho Manawatu-Springboks match. A letter of thanks was received from the Primary Schools Sports Association for the recent grant of £25. Thero are no fixtures for the coining Saturday, the match between Manawatu and Southland having been transferred to Monday next, but arrangements may bo made for an outstanding third, grade match between Palmerston North High School and United to be played. The third grade championship competition will be< brought to finality on August 21. Permission was granted for tho Palmerston North High School team to play Te Aute at AVaipawa on August 21, following the game against Napier High School at Napier on August 19. It was reported by Mr Coiquhoun that Mr T. Collins had suggested to him that as the gate proceeds of the matches allocated for the Feilding gymnasium fund would not exceed £lO, the union might he prepared to I retain theso and make a donation of £2O. —It was decided to adopt this course.

The chairman reported that the Manawatu v. Springboks match had yielded £2020. It was resolved to forward to the Inspector of Police and the primary schools representatives letters of appreciation for the excellent arrangements they had made. Letters of thanks are to be forwarded to the local theatre managements, the Palmerston North AVrestling Association, and the Kia Toa Football Club for entertaining the Springboks. Mr AV. Gleeson was appointed manager of the Manawatu team to meet Southland.

Arrangements were made to start the third grade subsidiary competition on September 4.
