STIPENDIARY STEWARD.
TROTTING APPOINTMENT.

Mr -T. S. Shaw has been appointed a stipendiary steward by the New .Zealand Trotting Conference, and will take over his duties on September 1. He has, becli for a number of years a well-known trotting trainer and driver, and at .present lias a good team of trotters and pacers, besides a number of gallopers in work.
Mr Shaw first look up tho trotting interest with Mr J. Tudhopo in the days of Bribery and other useful Tudhopo horses, and then transferred io Mr T. Fox’s stable. Having originally shown a liking for gallopers, Mr Shaw next took charge of a team of hunters for Lady Clifford,, but after 12 months went back to the trotding sport, joining Mr J. Bryco s stables. Later ho signed on with Mr A. Fleming and his next venture was with Mrs Ailington in the days when Whispering Willie was the doyen of the trotting world. Mr Shaw then accepted a position as private trainer for Mr J. R. Corrigan at Hawora and a few years later removed to Auck land, whore he set up as a public trainer. For ten years he carried on his profession successfully at Epsom and then-transfer red to Christchurch, when ho added gallopers to his team and in more recent years has had a good measure of success in both branches. While in tho northern province Mr Shaw was nine years leading trainer and reinsman for tho North Island, during which time he was twice runnerup for tho New Zealand honours.
